Rig Metal Plus Sim Cockpit - Black

Regular price $499.00
Unit price  per

Discounted bundle also available.

This is our best value rig. it includes stronger wheel mounting, stronger gussets, wheel mounting plate, and a super rigid pedal mount.

The pictures show additional parts that are included over our base model (wheel and pedal mount components). In addition, there are some upgrades to some of the hardware.

Base dimensions: 58cm * 135cm
Height: 68cm

Note: There has been some slight changes to the design that are not updated in the product images. Most of the changes are shown in the manual, however, one item is not.  The length of the shifter arm support is much shorter to address a more appropriate position. There are two sets of short 4040 pieces. Two pieces are used for the wheel mount and one piece is used for the shifter arm support (with one remaining). You can select the correct length for your use (longer arms on the pedal deck or longer length for higher shifter position). Please remember to refer back to this note after purchasing.

The good the bad and the ugly

I upgraded to this unit as I was upgrading my pedals. I didn't find instructions online until halfway through the build process, but didn't need them until I found them. The unit, once constructed is very rigid, which is the why in replacing my other "ebay special". With the Feet kit I am now able to place the unit OVER the monoprice triple monitor legs, so I can get much closer to the screen and increase the realism to levels never before experienced. The down side to this unit is the construction time. The PLUS unit comes with a lot of extra pieces, and you may or may not need them. I use a real racecar seat (I have a couple racecars) and the Sabelt GT3, along with the Brey Krause uprights and sparco slider made the need for the additional pieces of the seat base not necessary. I also don't currently use a shifter (Simagic AlphaMini system with paddle shifters) so I have a pile of parts that I won't need until I choose to add or change the configuration. Here's the "ugly"... It takes 3-4 hours to set this thing up and adjust up. I suspect all of them do, so just plan for it in your mind and have a host of tools at your disposal. I have battery powered nut drivers and used them to aid in assembly, but you need to be careful not to overtorque and break the T-nuts or damage the head of the screws. Overall Exceptionally happy with this unit and is one of the best in the category for the money. I was looking at TrakRacr and bought THIS.

Amazing Value, very sturdy, and looks great

I've been using my Plus rig for about a month now and I absolutely love it! This thing is extremely sturdy and exactly what I was looking for. The black also looks really good with the whole thing assembled. Super sleek. It's not set up quite right for me yet, but there is a lot of room for adjustability and adding new components so I'm confident I'll be able to make it perfect over time with my own modifications. All in all it's a fantastic platform to start with.

Before, I was thinking I would try to make my own 8020 rig, but I don't think I could have saved any money doing that. Especially considering the time I would have put into design, sourcing parts, and cutting all the pieces myself.

That said, the instructions are dismal. They weren't current to the version I got which made things quite confusing. In the end I was able to get everything together, but boy was it a hassle. If you are someone who complains about putting together Ikea furniture, beware. I totally understand RigMetal's position on this though. Making good instructions takes time and I appreciate that they're focused on improving the design and altering the instructions for each design change is a hassle (I've had to do this for my own work in the past, it's not easy). If this rig was priced more like ones from larger sim racing companies I would be more peeved, but it isn't. The value for money here is still great despite my frustrations.

Only other issue was the packaging. The parts arrived in what looked like previously used cardboard boxes that had been torn open. Thankfully I don't think any parts were lost or damaged in transit, but it very easily could have happened. These parts are heavy all together, so sturdier packaging is needed.

In all I'm really happy with my purchase. Thanks, RigMetal!

Overall Pretty Happy

None of the bags of hardware or lengths of aluminum were labeled, which was a bit annoying, and I had to get a bit creative to install both the pedal extensions and the shifter mount with the pieces available.
I've seen other reviews mention that the instructions aren't great, and they're right. It's good enough to get you through, but not without a bit of frustration.
Hopefully the business does well enough that they can afford to hire a good technical writer to improve the instruction manual.

Despite these complaints, I'm pleased with the product, and would recommend it to anyone who has a day or so to muddle through the assembly.
